Onlysure fire way I know of making it work, is to load your game first. If your save was already downloaded from cloud, then go into offline mode. If not, get your save first. Once it's uploaded, immediately go offline and only play the game in offline mode to insure it's not erased when turning on the cloud features of uplay.
Idownloaded some save files from a website but it was in the form of save002.sav and my game uses 1.save and 2.save.
